PRODUCT · MARKETING · AI

I build products.
I bring them
to market.

Hi, I’m Vijay. I’ve spent close to two decades moving between engineering, product, consulting and marketing. Today I wear multiple product related hats at Amagi.

These days, I’m also coding again. AI has made that considerably more fun.

WHAT I DO

Three things, in a loop: decide what’s worth building, get it into the market, and write down what the work actually taught me.

Build

Product strategy, 0-to-1 products, AI-enabled workflows and systems that connect customer problems to product decisions.

Selected work →

Bring to market

Positioning, pricing and packaging, launches, competitive strategy, adoption and the enablement required to make any of it land.

How that works →

Think

Writing about AI, product, marketing and media technology — mostly the parts that are harder than they look.

WORK

A few problems I’ve spent time on.

Not a product catalogue. These are the kinds of problems I’ve owned, built around, and learned from over the years.

01
0→1 · PMM · OPERATING MODEL
Building product marketing from scratch
Joined as the first product marketer and built the foundations across positioning, launches, competitive intelligence, analyst relations, enablement and product feedback. What began as individual programs became a repeatable operating model connecting product and commercial teams across a growing portfolio.
02
AI · GTM · COMMERCIALIZATION
Taking new AI capabilities to market
Worked across use-case definition, product strategy, positioning, pricing, packaging, trials and adoption to turn emerging AI capabilities into a coherent customer offer. The focus was making AI practical, trustworthy and easy to evaluate inside real media workflows.
03
COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE · ENTERPRISE GTM · AI
Building an intelligence system for a changing market
Built competitive intelligence and win/loss from the ground up, later adding AI-assisted monitoring and synthesis. The resulting system informed enterprise pursuits, positioning, pricing responses and product decisions as the FAST market evolved into a more mature and competitive category.
04
PRODUCT · 0→1 · CUSTOMER DISCOVERY
Moving from market insight into product
Moved into product management after identifying a recurring customer problem. Led discovery, roadmap definition and cross-functional development of a 0-to-1 streaming capability from concept through validation and early adoption. The work also contributed to a published patent.
05
EDUCATION · ENABLEMENT · ADOPTION
Making complex products easier to adopt
Built a connected education and enablement program spanning training, certification, documentation, release communication and sales programs. It gave customers and internal teams a clearer path from initial exposure to confident use, especially for products with technically complex workflows.
CAREER

I’ve never had a very straight career.

That zig-zag turned out to be useful. Resume →

I started in software engineering, moved into product marketing, spent seven years across marketing analytics, SaaS, automation and team leadership, took a deliberate turn into product management, and eventually returned to product marketing with a much broader view of how products are built, sold and adopted.

2007–2011
IBM

Software Engineer & Team Lead

My first years were deeply technical: system verification, enterprise software, release cycles and leading a small engineering team. They left me with a habit I still rely on — wanting to understand how a product actually works before deciding how to explain or improve it.

Then I moved closer to the market ↓
2011–2014
IBM Rational

Product Marketing Manager

I moved from building software to taking it to market: positioning, launches, webinars, sales content, SaaS offers, acquisitions and migration programs. I also led conference tracks. This was where I discovered that I enjoyed translating complex technology almost as much as building it.

2014–2021
Visual IQ / Nielsen

Senior Consultant → Manager → Senior Manager

I spent seven years in marketing attribution and analytics, progressing from hands-on customer delivery to leading a 16-person cross-functional team. Along the way, I worked on SaaS transition, automation, internal data products and ML-driven processing improvements.

The boundary between “customer problem” and “product problem” kept getting thinner ↓
2021–2022
Amagi

First Product Marketer

Senior Manager, Product Marketing

I joined Amagi to establish product marketing for a fast-growing media technology company. That meant building the foundations across positioning, launches, competitive intelligence, analyst relations and enablement while staying close to product, sales and customer problems.

2022–2023
Amagi

A 0→1 Experiment

Lead Product Manager

I moved into product management to work directly on discovery, roadmap decisions and 0-to-1 capabilities with engineering and design. It gave me first-hand experience of product trade-offs — and changed how I approach positioning, launches and customer evidence today.

2023–Present
Amagi

Product Marketing for Streaming & AI

Senior Manager, Product Marketing · 2023–2025
Director, Product Marketing — Streaming & AI · 2025–Present

I returned to product marketing with a remit spanning portfolio narrative, go-to-market, pricing and packaging, competitive strategy, analyst relations and product education. Today I own the product marketing charter for streaming and AI, while also building AI-assisted workflows for research, competitive intelligence and enablement.

Apparently I don’t believe careers need to move in straight lines. So far, that has worked out well.
